Enes Makalic is the Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) in the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) at Monash University and the Director of the new FIT AI in Health initiative. His work focuses on data science and machine learning, with an emphasis on developing statistical and computational methods for analysing large-scale biomedical data, including genomics and medical imaging. His research has contributed to cancer epidemiology, particularly in breast cancer risk prediction using AI-based analysis of mammograms, as well as the identification of genetic risk factors through large-scale studies. Prior to joining Monash, he held senior research and leadership roles at the University of Melbourne, where he led the High Dimensional Analytics Unit, and he continues to work in interdisciplinary collaborations spanning AI, clinical research, and population health.
