Primary supervisor
Yidan ZhangThis winter internship focuses on applying visual analytics to support multi-objective decision-making in wind farm planning under biodiversity constraints.
The role is expected to involve supporting stakeholder workshop activities as well as contributing to the analysis and synthesis of insights. The intern will also support the translation of these insights into visual analytics designs and, where feasible, assist in developing a simple prototype demonstrating selected functionality. Additional tasks may include basic data preparation and clear documentation summarising methods, design decisions, and outcomes.
Required knowledge
Applicants with the following background and skills will be strongly preferred:
- Experience in qualitative research, including supporting and synthesising workshop or stakeholder inputs (e.g., summarising discussions, identifying key themes).
- Data visualisation fundamentals, with the ability to communicate insights clearly through appropriate visual representations.
- Basic design and prototyping skills, including translating insights into visual forms (e.g., sketches or mock-ups).
- Programming and data handling experience, including Python for data processing and analysis, and familiarity with front-end development (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS) for building simple interactive prototypes.
- Interest in sustainability, renewable energy systems, or environmental planning and decision making.
