This project is in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University, Indonesia. We will explore the use of AI in dentistry, especially in dental medical imaging and periodontology (gum disease). Gum disease often causes bone loss in the furcation of a lower molar (see picture below). A furcation involvement, also called a furcation invasion, is an area of bone loss at the branching point of a tooth root.

Aim/outline
The aim of the project is to use AI and Deep Learning to detect Furcation Involvement and to classify the severity of furcation. The developed AI model will read dental panoramic xray data and identify where furcation involvement may exist in the teeth.
